Officials from the White House and the Democratic Party are denouncing the proposed budget and debt ceiling bill that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and other Republicans have presented. According to a news briefing, the plan would lead to “poisonous” effects on children's lungs and cause bones to "literally melt."
In March 2022, Joe Biden signed the FY2022 Appropriations bill, which set the spending levels for the next year. He praised the legislation for investing in the country's future and safety. Jen Psaki, his press secretary, also noted that the bill would help businesses and families lower their costs.
Rosa DeLauro, who was the Chair of the House Committee on Appropriations, praised the bill's spending. She noted that it helped lower the cost of housing for working families.
It is strange that Democrats are complaining about the same spending levels they were celebrating when they were in power. In the past few years, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer released a joint statement about the spending agreement. They noted that it would help address some of the country's most critical issues, such as COVID-20 and the rising cost of living. Others, such as Matt Cartwright and Sanford Bishop Jr., praised the bill.
Democrats are now resorting to false claims in an attempt to scare the public and Republican members of Congress into supporting Biden's agenda. McCarthy has accused them of hypocrisy, and he expects a vote on a bill that would increase pressure on them to oppose the spending plan of the House Republican.
