President Donald Trump has finally addressed the burning question of why he didn’t fire Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, during his time in office. And boy, does he have some things to say about it!
On Hugh Hewitt’s radio show, Trump explained that he simply wasn’t allowed to fire Fauci. You see, Fauci is a civil servant, and as much as Trump might have wanted to show him the door, it just wasn’t within his power. But hey, that didn’t stop Trump from doing things his own way. According to the former president, he often chose to ignore the advice Fauci gave him. Talk about playing by your own rules!
Trump didn’t miss the opportunity to throw some shade at Fauci either. He claimed that the good doctor wasn’t much of a “big player” during his administration, but now that Biden is in charge, suddenly Fauci has become a major player. Ouch! It sounds like Trump is feeling a little salty about Fauci’s newfound fame.
But Trump’s not done dishing out the criticism just yet. He turned his attention to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, another target for his sharp tongue. Trump accused DeSantis of having a “selective memory” when it came to handling the pandemic. According to Trump, DeSantis shut down the entire state of Florida, while governors like Henry McMaster of South Carolina and Kristi Noem of South Dakota kept their states open for business. It’s clear that Trump thinks DeSantis made some questionable decisions during the pandemic.

And just when you thought Trump was done, he dropped another bombshell. He revealed that Florida, under DeSantis’ leadership, was the third-worst state in terms of COVID deaths. Yikes! That’s definitely not a statistic you want associated with your name. Trump made it clear that DeSantis was not one of the conservative governors who successfully managed the pandemic.
Unsurprisingly, the DeSantis campaign had a response ready. They argued that Florida had actually fully reopened in May 2020 and pointed out that DeSantis had made tough decisions to protect the state. But Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, wasn’t buying it. He criticized DeSantis for closing down businesses while allowing abortion clinics to stay open. Clearly, Cheung thinks DeSantis should do some soul-searching.
So there you have it, folks. Trump has finally explained why he didn’t fire Fauci, and he didn’t hold back when it came to criticizing DeSantis either. Love him or hate him, you can always count on Trump to speak his mind.
