ABC Anchor Slammed for Linking Trump to KKK in Interview with Gov Whitmer

In a recent display of media bias that could make even the most seasoned spin doctor blush, an ABC News anchor whiffed on basic journalistic objectivity while interviewing Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer at the Democrats’ National Convention. With all the subtlety of a sledgehammer, Linsey Davis linked former President Donald Trump to the Ku Klux Klan during her questioning. This move prompted a collective facepalm from conservatives across the country, who might wonder how discussions about policy have devolved into this kind of ridiculous rhetoric.

Davis seemed to think it was a clever idea to point out that Trump was planning a campaign stop in Howell, Michigan, just a month after some KKK protesters made themselves known there. The implication was clear: by merely appearing in the same town, Trump is somehow endorsing those questionable affiliations. Whitmer, playing right into the hands of this absurd narrative, was quick to suggest that Trump was completely clueless about the optics of visiting such a location, thus reinforcing her party’s favorite trope of him being a “divisive” figure.

Whitmer, in a masterclass of political theater, suggested that Trump’s decision to rally in Howell reflects a “troubling strategy” of fearmongering. This is rich coming from the party that has pushed fear about COVID at every turn while simultaneously promoting policies that keep people dependent on government handouts. Whitmer contrasted Trump’s alleged strategy with what she described as the joyful, happy warriors of the Democrat party, completely missing the irony that true joy generally doesn’t require a government bailout to exist.

The echo chamber continued its symphony with a strikingly similar statement from Vice President Kamala Harris’s Michigan communications director, Alyssa Bradley. She wasn’t shy about doubling down on the tired old narrative that Trump is some sort of puppet master for racists and white supremacists. Meanwhile, she chose to conveniently ignore the fact that 2021 saw none other than President Joe Biden himself in Howell pushing his “Build Back Better” agenda. One must wonder if his appearance was similarly greeted by the Democrats with a wave of self-righteous indignation, but that doesn’t fit the narrative, does it?

What happened next in the media circus? Davis took it upon herself to effectively lead Whitmer down the path of smearing Trump, giving viewers a masterclass in biased debate moderation. If this is what constitutes a neutral debate stage, then it’s clear Trump should request a new moderator who can at least pretend to be impartial. Given Harris’s aversion to any news outlet that leans right, it would seem that viewers can expect more of this unfiltered bias. With the polls already predicting doom for Harris, it remains to be seen whether she can hold her own. But one thing is certain: Trump’s debate prowess leaves no room for error, and if history is any indication, he’s bound to dominate—just as he did with Biden.
