Assassination Attempt on Trump Sparks Wave of Conspiracy Theories

The recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump has ignited both outrage and speculation among American conservatives, who smell something fishy in the narrative being spun by the mainstream media and government agencies. With Congress and federal bureaucrats investigating how 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to unleash eight shots during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, theories have been swirling like a tornado in a trailer park.

One of the more astonishing revelations comes from investigative reporter Ben Swann, who pointed out the absurdity of the explanations provided. Former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who understandably resigned under the pressure of criticism, claimed that agents weren’t positioned on the roof where Crooks was holed up because the slope was “too steep.” Thankfully, Swann contests that it’s reasonable to suspect that the situation was anything but simple incompetence. To him, it’s not just a case of negligence but potentially a deliberate stand down, giving rise to a refrain echoed by many Americans who refuse to buy the “lone wolf” narrative.

Conspiracy theories are as American as apple pie, and this one is no exception. Take, for instance, a delectable concoction suggesting that Donald Trump might have staged the assassination attempt with help from none other than Vladimir Putin. This theory gained traction after a political adviser, whose name is not worth mentioning, was caught in the email crossfire suggesting Trump was more of an actor than a victim. Of course, one in three Democrats reportedly bought into this outlandish plot, proving once again that when it comes to undermining the legitimacy of Republicans, the left swings for the fences.

Equally eyebrow-raising is the theory that President Joe Biden ordered the hit on Trump. No sooner had the news of the shooting broken than Rep. Mike Collins took to X to connect the dots, quoting Biden’s earlier rhetoric about putting Trump “in the bullseye.” Some might shake their heads, but a growing number of politicians are demanding accountability for Biden’s words. Yet, while Congress sits baffled, the FBI has yet to uncover any clear motive behind Crooks’s attack. Perhaps they should consult the very same tinfoil-hat-wearing folks who seem to have a better grasp on the situation than the country’s top investigative agency.

Then there’s the wild theory that an off-duty FBI agent was present in the crowd, purportedly captured on video pulling out her phone during the chaos as everyone else hit the deck. Naturally, this lady was reported to be assistant director Janeen DiGuiseppi, but the FBI wasted no time in debunking that myth. They proudly stated that their agents work day and night to protect Americans and that this claim was “categorically false.” But in the age of social media, where myths spread faster than actual news, the idea remains lodged in the minds of those who find these coincidences a little too convenient.

Last but certainly not least, a wildly circulated post from 4Chan claimed to be from a clandestine sniper assigned to take Crooks down, saying he had his sights locked in but was ordered not to engage. Unsurprisingly, the Secret Service quickly dismissed the post as a desperate grab for attention from a nobody. However, it raises further questions about the agency’s actions, as they’ve admitted to spotting Crooks before the shooting but failed to act decisively. This is exactly the kind of thing that turns conspiracy theorists into conspiracy scholars.

One can’t help but wonder if there’s a kernel of truth hidden somewhere in this chaotic narrative, as Americans grow restless about the efficacy of the agencies tasked with their safety. With theories ricocheting through the digital landscape, conservatives are left to grapple with a baffling reality: Was this mishap merely a collection of unfortunate events, or was it a calculated chess move on a much larger political board?
