The chaos at the Mountain Home VA comes at a time when the Biden administration appears blissfully ignorant of its obligations to veterans. The recent string of misfortunes includes a disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan that left many feeling abandoned. Unsurprisingly, tales of sexual misconduct erupting within the institution only adds insult to injury. Meanwhile, news of Hunter Biden receiving a pardon has left many veterans feeling as though the administration cares more about the president’s family than those who donned the uniform.

As attention turns toward future leadership with the impending return of Donald Trump, those looking for accountability and change might see a glimmer of hope with figures like former congressman Doug Collins stepping into the secretary of veterans affairs role. A return to leadership that prioritizes veterans could bring stability and standards back to an organization that has clearly lost its way under the current regime. This could signal a hard reset, putting veterans’ needs back in the spotlight where they belong.
