Joe Biden and Gavin Newsom have once again graced the public with their lack of sensitivity during a video call about the devastating wildfires scorching California. While the flames wreak havoc in Los Angeles, these two men managed to find time to discuss their personal journeys rather than the lives being upended by the disasters in their backyards. It’s a wonder how they can stay so blissfully unaware while so many suffer.
During this charade of a video call, Biden seemingly revealed his priorities—and it doesn’t include the unfortunate citizens of California. Instead of addressing the dire situation and offering support, he casually dropped the news that he has achieved great-grandfather status. As if that was of any relevance when entire neighborhoods could be going up in smoke. The president’s tone-deafness is almost worthy of a comedy skit if it weren’t so deeply tragic for those affected by the fires. Meanwhile, the fate of Biden’s son Hunter’s home is still uncertain, adding another layer of absurdity to an already bewildering scenario.
Turning to Newsom, he apparently found ample time to express his dissatisfaction with how he and his fellow Democrats have been portrayed regarding the crisis. Instead of providing solutions or compassion to the victims, he preferred to lament that he and his comrades were being unfairly criticized for an inadequate response, including the apparent lack of water in the fire hydrants. Apparently, wanting actual water to fight fires is just too much to ask in the eyes of these leaders. As wildfires rage on, it’s bizarre to see them more concerned with public relations than the very real needs of their constituents.

Moreover, when a frantic wildfire victim sought assistance from Newsom during the call, he brushed her off, insisting he was busy with Biden. This should serve as a wake-up call—if those running California prioritize talking to the president over helping a citizen in distress, the state is in far worse trouble than the fires themselves. The sheer disconnection from reality showcased by both leaders is alarming.
For the residents of California, the message is painfully clear: change is desperately needed. Voting for the same old parties, presiding over the same failures, will lead to the same disastrous outcomes. The frustration of Californians, especially those who have lost everything to wildfires, must be channeled into action at the ballot box to finally rid themselves of these ineffective leaders. Until that happens, it seems they will be stuck in a cycle of failure while Biden and Newsom continue to bask in their obliviousness.
