Biden Casts Himself as Next FDR Amid Sinking Polls and Public Discontent

President Joe Biden has managed to carve out a unique spot in American politics—a veritable bridge between the establishment elites and the fed-up common folk. This self-appointed savior seems blissfully unaware that the average American views his presidency as little more than a carnival sideshow, complete with a healthy dose of chaos and confusion.

Biden recently sat down for an interview that could only be described as a masterclass in delusion, asserting that his time in office has been a boon for Americans. It’s no surprise, then, that he believes he’s on par with the greats like Franklin D. Roosevelt. One would assume he’s consumed enough of those rosy establishment narratives to think he’s truly making waves for everyday workers, especially those from his beloved Scranton, Pennsylvania. The reality, however, says otherwise.

The interview’s backdrop—a grand FDR portrait hanging in the Oval Office—speaks volumes about Biden’s misguided aspirations. He wants to be remembered as the next FDR, but considering that FDR’s administration was rife with questionable policies and economic mismanagement, perhaps Biden should reconsider this goal. After all, FDR’s National Recovery Administration and its Blue Eagle symbol didn’t exactly win awards for efficacy, much like many of Biden’s own initiatives.

Polling data isn’t particularly kind to Biden, either. A recent Gallup poll has placed him squarely in the second-worst spot among modern presidents, just a hair above Nixon, whose legacy has long been tarnished by Watergate. With Biden boasting a staggering 37 percent of respondents rating him as “poor,” it’s hard to argue that he’s winning any popularity contests, even among Democrats. It’s particularly amusing to note that a full 16 percent of self-identified Democrats consider Biden “below average” or worse. If they’re not cheering him on, who is?

Biden’s attempts to portray himself as a champion of democracy, both at home and abroad, are comical in their disconnect from reality. It seems he missed the memo that Americans are more concerned with skyrocketing prices and border chaos than abstract notions of democracy. Polling results reflect this, as voters overwhelmingly signal discontent. Shouldn’t a president’s success be measured by the happiness and wealth of its citizens rather than lofty ideals that resonate more with a university lecture hall than with the diner down the street?

As Biden continues to paint himself as a pivotal and effective leader, the truth is murkier. His presidency is shaping up to be an exercise in futility, leaving many to wonder at what point he’ll grasp that he is not the transformative figure he so desperately wishes to be. Instead, as average Americans remember the past few years, it seems increasingly likely that Biden is destined for the historical footnotes of forgettable presidencies.
