President Joe Biden took to the podium last Saturday to mark the 12th anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy—yet another grim occasion for him to push his gun control agenda. In a lengthy statement, Biden reminisced about the aftermath of the massacre, where out of the ashes, groups like Moms Demand Action and Giffords sprang up to champion stricter gun laws. However, the president conveniently sidestepped any mention of Mike Bloomberg’s deep pockets and influence, which have fueled these organizations. It’s almost like believing a fast-food restaurant when it claims it serves organic food because someone once tossed a salad into the fryer.
Biden also proudly recalled the so-called gun control measures he signed into law in 2022, while simultaneously peddling the false narrative that crime and homicides decreased under his watch. While some might have taken his word for it, those paying attention know better. The FBI, not particularly a conspiracy theory haven, recently revised crime statistics, revealing that violent crime actually climbed by a shocking 4.5 percent during his tenure. Perhaps he’s counting some kind of magical statistics that only apply to Democrats in power.
Not content to let facts get in the way, Biden’s conclusion centered on his wishlist for Congress, which included universal background checks, a red flag law, mandatory gun storage, and a ban on so-called “assault weapons”—the same type of weapon that was lawfully purchased and later stolen for the Sandy Hook attack. While he pointed to this heinous crime, he seemed to overlook the glaring fact that neither the laws he advocates for nor his past accomplishments have mitigated violence. It’s like advocating for stricter cycling rules after someone rides a stolen bicycle through a library without considering they didn’t have the right bike in the first place.

It’s also curious that Biden failed to mention California, a state already saturated with the exact gun regulations he demands. The Golden State, despite enacting every imaginable gun law, stood out in leading the nation for “active shooter incidents” in both 2021 and 2023. If laws were the secret sauce, one might think California would be basking in peaceful paradise instead of reeling from far too many tragedies.
This situation reflects the broader, defining characteristic of Biden’s approach to gun control: a mix of missed facts, half-truths, and political theater that ignores the real problems at hand. Ultimately, it’s more about the narrative than actual solutions, proving once again that for those in power, the manipulation of sorrow can be a powerful tool, especially when it’s used to advance their agendas—no matter how flawed they are
