DOJ Spends Over $100M on DEI in Schools Fueling Conservative Backlash

The Department of Justice, under the guidance of President Biden, has been busy pouring over $100 million into K-12 schools since 2021, all in the name of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). A recent investigation by Parents Defending Education has revealed just how deep the pockets of the DOJ run when it comes to propping up these progressive initiatives. With at least 30 grants directly targeting DEI or intentions to tweak outcomes for specific demographic groups, taxpayers are left wondering just where this money is going and what it’s truly achieving.

Among the more eye-popping allocations is nearly $2 million awarded to the Minnesota Department of Education. This funding is earmarked to create “safe learning environments” complete with practices of anti-racism and anti-oppression. Furthermore, the Minnesota department is proudly committed to squeezing LGBTQ inclusion into every crack of the educational framework. It’s almost as if they think classrooms need a social justice fairy godmother to sprinkle some magic dust on them.

In a similar vein, Pennsylvania State University received over $1.7 million for its anti-bullying campaign, clearly designed to help K-12 schools advance equity in violence prevention—focusing on communities deemed underserved or marginalized. The phrasing sounds like something straight out of a brainstorming session for social justice lingo with the caveat of making sure every demographic has its moment in the spotlight, including People of Color, women, and the LGBTQIA+ community.

Milwaukee Public Schools also jumped on the DEI bandwagon, receiving nearly $1 million to promote racial equity and dismantle “institutionalized barriers.” Yet, one has to ask: How many more barriers can be dismantled before we’re left with nothing but rubble? Another hefty grant of around $1.7 million aimed at teaching Pennsylvania students about “community policing” and “trauma-informed conflict” makes it clear that the DOJ is committed to instilling its brand of “edu-leftism” into the hearts and minds of children, emphasizing everything from racial trauma to the impacts of social media.

Despite these lavish grants, states are beginning to push back against the DEI agenda. Governors across the nation are taking a stand to ban such programs, and even major corporations like Walmart are waking up to the futility of DEI trainings. Recent reports have shown alarming trends, including the fact that schools with DEI policies haven’t delivered on their promises to improve learning outcomes for targeted groups. In fact, some recent findings suggest that such policies could even influence people to echo some pretty deplorable sentiments from history.

The DOJ didn’t rush to offer a response when queried about this spendthrift campaign funded by American taxpayers. One can only speculate whether they are too busy celebrating another DEI grant or trying to figure out how to spin this growing backlash. As these programs become more scrutinized, one thing is for sure: the tug-of-war over control of education is far from over.
