The recent saga surrounding Zach Schoffstall, a former supervisory senior resident agent with the FBI in Salt Lake City, shines a glaring spotlight on the deteriorating law enforcement priorities under the current administration. Schoffstall’s attempt to tackle the so-called “domestic terrorism” and “hate crimes” pushed by his superiors landed him in hot water—due in large part to a penchant for political correctness that seems more concerned with optics than with actual justice.
Schoffstall’s efforts to present two notable hate crime cases to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Idaho were met with a resounding “no.” Instead of prosecuting the cases, the U.S. Attorney, Josh Hurwit, prioritized hosting non-essential seminars aimed at appeasing the Biden administration’s agenda rather than tackling real crimes. This decision aligns perfectly with the Biden administration’s focus on identity politics over public safety—a clear indicator of where priorities lie in today’s justice system.
No bias to see here. Hopefully he gets his job back with back pay.

The plot thickened further when the FBI directed Schoffstall to pursue a warrant against a group deemed a “domestic extremist” entity protesting LGBTQ events. Schoffstall, seeing the absurdity of targeting individuals protesting against the ever-evolving LGBTQ agenda, rightly refused. His insubordination—not to the law, but rather to an increasingly politically charged environment—resulted in his career taking a nosedive. An agency once seen as a bastion of law and order is now more intent on appeasing the demands of the day than seeking justice.
The 2022 incident at the Coeur d’Alene “Pride in the Park” brought to light not only the chaos of modern activism but also the absurdities of modern law enforcement priorities. The arrest of 31 members of the Patriot Front, who were allegedly planning to riot, was surrounded by bizarre circumstances. While members of Antifa roamed free, the real concern seemed to be about framing the narrative to fit a societal viewpoint rather than addressing the actual issues at hand.
Schoffstall’s direct observations about the biases interfering with the prosecution of legitimate crimes could not be more revealing. His commentary about Hurwit’s focus on “getting in good graces” with the Department of Justice possesses a ring of desperation that reflects the overarching mantra of today’s government: performative action over genuine accountability. Rather than seeing possible prosecutable offenses as a call to action, they looked to present themselves as ‘progressive’ and ‘inclusive.’
Entities like the Department of Justice now push initiatives focusing on combating hate, yet the irony isn’t lost that while they focus on “education” and workshops, they neglect real crimes in favor of hollow compliance with the radical left’s priorities. The individuals involved in the Patriot Front case faced pathetic sentences or outright freedom, suggesting that the so-called proponents of justice have lost their way and are merely following political agendas which often seem to supersede the law.
In a system where priorities are dictated by social narratives instead of justice, it becomes painfully clear that law enforcement is being wielded as a tool of political correctness by those who would prefer to placate rather than prosecute. The era of political appeasement is upon us, and while the stakes for genuine justice continue to climb, the compass guiding the DOJ seems irrevocably skewed.
