In a shocking turn of events, the Hawaii State Senate Judiciary Committee has endorsed Senate Bill 2392, a bill that could have devastating consequences for former President Donald Trump’s potential run in the 2024 presidential election. It narrowly passed a contentious procedural vote, sending it on its way to be considered by the full legislative body. This is a major blow to conservatives who support Trump and want to see him back in the White House.
The proponents of this bill claim that Trump’s alleged involvement in the Capitol riot on January 6th, 2021, qualifies as an insurrection, making him unfit for presidential candidacy. But let’s just stop and think about this for a moment. Trump hasn’t faced any formal charges or convictions related to the so-called insurrection.
It’s not surprising that this bill has faced significant pushback from those who see it for what it truly is: a tyrannical attempt to silence conservative voices. One resident, Jamie Detwiler, called the bill “tyrannical” and highlighted its flaws, especially considering the lack of evidence against Trump. It’s heartening to know that there were over 300 complaints or negative testimonies against this bill, far outnumbering the paltry 20 voices in support. This shows that conservatives in Hawaii and across the country are standing up against this blatant attack on our democracy.
Senator Karl Rhoads, a Democrat, who is clearly playing politics with this legislation. Rhoads, a member of multiple influential committees, spearheaded this initiative to disqualify candidates from electoral ballots. It’s a shame that Democrats are resorting to such underhanded tactics to try and eliminate Trump from future elections. They are clearly scared of his popularity and the fact that he could win again in 2024.
So what does Senate Bill 2392 actually entail? It seeks to formalize procedures for disqualifying candidates from electoral ballots, based on constitutional or statutory provisions. In other words, it gives the government even more power to decide who can and cannot run for office. It also prohibits electors from voting for candidates who have been disqualified. This is a blatant disregard for the democratic process and an attempt to stifle the voice of the people.
It’s important to note that this bill aligns with Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment, which prohibits individuals implicated in insurrection from holding public office. But again, let’s remember that Trump has not been implicated in any insurrection. This is a desperate attempt to twist the facts and prevent a conservative leader from ever holding office again.
