War is often portrayed as a tragic necessity, and the ongoing situation in Israel provides a stark reminder of how just such conflicts arise. The origins of this conflict are starkly visible; Israel is not just defending land, but a people from those who fervently wish to eradicate both the state and its Jewish inhabitants from existence.
In the most recent escalation, Iran launched a significant barrage of 180 ballistic missiles aimed at Israel, with Hezbollah quickly following suit by peppering the Jewish state with over 100 rockets from Lebanon. Israel, faced with these aggressive attacks, has finally decided it cannot sit idly by. The nation has initiated its first ground offensive in Southern Lebanon since 2006. The need for self-defense could not be clearer, and their actions rightly position Israel at the forefront of the fight against terrorism in the region.

The timeline of this conflict can be traced back just over a year to October 7, 2023. The world watched in horror as innocent festival-goers were brutally targeted, leading to an absolute wave of terror. Photos of the violence and misery inflicted by Hamas terrorists marked a dark chapter not just for Israel, but for anyone who values decency and humanity. Images of victims—young and old—torn from life are forever etched in the global conscience.
Increasingly disturbing, however, has been the surge of anti-Semitism across Western nations in response to the war. Universities have become hotbeds of radical activism, with vandalism and protests targeting Jewish communities. Policing agencies have shown moral failures by hesitating in providing protection to Jewish communities. In what can only be described as an abomination, a young Jewish girl in France became the victim of a shocking hate crime, underscoring the alarming reality of rampant anti-Semitism that is finding fertile ground in the West.
As the tide of cultural cowardice rises, an alarming number of European Jews are contemplating emigration to Israel, seeking a haven from hostility that seems to have taken root in their own backyards. This is a telling sign of the times. Israel isn’t just a nation-state; it embodies the very principle that every people deserves their sovereignty, secure borders, and the right to defend their heritage fiercely. Europe’s political elites seem to have forgotten this, opting instead for a dilution of national identity in favor of vague supranationalism, while Israel stands proud in its reaffirmation of statehood. The Jewish people’s experience over centuries underscores the critical need for nations to have a secure identity and borders.
The lesson for all nation-states today is that self-determination is key. If nations like Israel can stand up for themselves, surely European states should draw inspiration and muster the will to reinforce their own identities in an increasingly chaotic global landscape. Israel’s fight is not merely its own; it is a referendum on the future of nationhood itself. This is why standing with Israel transcends mere support; it is a stand for the reaffirmation of what it means to be a sovereign state in a world where such ideals are under frequent assault.
