Kamala’s Future: Political Powerhouse or Passing Fad?

As the winds of political change sweep through the country, one thing stands out clear: some faces in the Democratic arena might better serve the public with a ghost costume this Halloween because they’re just about as relevant as last year’s costume trends. Victor Davis Hanson, a seasoned fellow from the Hoover Institution, recently shared his thoughts on the visibility – or lack thereof – of Kamala Harris. In his eyes, and perhaps the eyes of many, she’s managed to assume the political equivalent of ninja stealth mode. In other words, she’s disappeared into the shadows.

According to Hanson, Kamala Harris finds herself in a peculiar position. Once Vice President, her spotlight has dimmed over time. Having hitched her wagon to an extreme faction within her party, it seems like she’s now left to warm the benches. With no official office or significant political clout at the moment, her once-prominent presence now appears reduced to attending sporting events. A far cry from the fiery frontrunner, one might say.

Hanson humorously pointed out that when it comes to recognition, even casual sports fans are more likely to recognize somebody ordering popcorn than Kamala Harris in the crowd. Whether she might bump into anyone who remembers her from TV appearances, he jokes it’s a mystery – perhaps the kind that the hardy folks of Fresno State might help solve during a halftime show. After all, name recognition might just be everything in the game of political relevancy.

The Democrats might need to pop the metaphorical smelling salts and wake up from their self-imposed slumber. Currently, they control the White House, but they do not hold majorities in the House of Representatives or the Senate. Their strategy appears to rely heavily on tactics reminiscent of college campus protests—holding signs and staging stunts as if the real world operates on hopes and chants alone. But even a burnt coffee-fueled all-nighter won’t brew up the needed results if they remain out of touch with the pulse of the country.

So, it seems, Americans are eager to wake up from what some conservatives perceive as a political “nightmare.” They are looking to reset their sights on a time when priorities didn’t cater to the loudest whiners, but rather to common sense and those values that keep the ship steady. And as for Kamala? Maybe she’s better off staying in the rearview mirror—at least until she can be recognized for something beyond a fixture of political nostalgia, hanging around the edges of public events like a party crasher who’s lost the invitation.
