Michigan Defies Trump Order Continues Radical Agenda in Schools

The Michigan board of education has made it abundantly clear that the state has no intention of complying with President Trump’s executive order aimed at halting the teaching of radical gender ideology and Critical Race Theory (CRT) in schools. Superintendent Michael Rice, who seems more committed to progressive education policies than upholding parental concerns, stated that Michigan schools will continue their mission of indoctrination without missing a beat.

Trump’s order, issued on January 29, seeks to cut federal funding to schools that refuse to comply. However, Rice responded with typical bureaucratic bravado, arguing that Michigan’s own “anti-discrimination” laws trump federal mandates. In other words, he believes the state’s rules about how to educate children take precedence over the wishes of the leader of the free world, reasoning that state law is carved in stone while federal orders are mere suggestions.

Rice also made a point to emphasize that nearly a quarter of public high schoolers in Michigan identify as LGBTQ+, which conveniently serves as his shield against any criticism for perpetuating controversial topics in schools. One might ask, does the number of students identifying as part of the LGBTQ+ community justify forcing all students into a curriculum that many parents view as inappropriate? According to Rice, the answer is a resounding yes, as he continues to push a curriculum aimed more at social engineering than education.

Meanwhile, the federal government is trying to clean house by dismantling Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives within its ranks. This is an acknowledgment that taxpayer dollars shouldn’t be spent on promoting ideologies that further divide rather than educate. As Rice continues to champion the teachings of CRT and radical gender theory, he seems oblivious to the fact that the winds of change are blowing at the federal level, where anti-woke policies are rapidly taking hold.

It’s ironic, given that while Michigan’s education leaders are dead set on keeping radical ideologies in schools, parents across the nation are standing up and demanding accountability and transparency from their local education boards. Many Americans are looking around at the tangled mess that identity politics has wrought in schools and wondering why their kids are receiving less math and science but far more social justice lessons. Sadly, as long as figures like Rice remain in charge, the indoctrination will likely continue, much to the dismay of concerned parents in the Great Lakes State.
