He argues that Biden, in his infinite wisdom, must have felt compelled to protect his son from the wrath of an incoming Trump administration that “vowed retribution.” In doing so, Capehart unwittingly confirms the perception that Hunter Biden is not just one man’s son but a politically protected entity, indulged by the very system that cries out for accountability.

The cherry on top of Capehart’s illogical sundae comes with his suggestion that pardoning Hunter somehow preemptively counters Trump’s anticipated pardons for those connected to the January 6 protests. It’s an extravagant leap, jumping from one narrative to another as if they bear some semblance of logic. The idea that Trump’s actions are inextricably linked to Biden’s decisions regarding his son reeks more of desperation than sound reasoning. As if to say, “If they’re going to violate norms, we might as well do it too,” is the hallmark of a weak argument.
