Rep Mark Green Bows Out, Touts Season of Service & Backs Trump 2024!

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) has announced that he will not seek reelection this year, adding to the growing list of House Republicans stepping down from their positions. In an interview with the Washington Examiner, Green explained that after much thought, he believed he had achieved the goals he set out to accomplish when he first ran for office.

Green attributed his decision to the belief that the framers of the Constitution did not intend for representatives to serve indefinitely, emphasizing the importance of a “season” of service before returning to civilian life. His retirement also comes following the House Committee on Homeland Security’s vote to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, a process in which Green played a significant role and which he described as the pinnacle of his career.

The Congressman expressed his frustration with his time in Congress, stating that he had come to realize that the real fight lies outside of Washington, particularly between the states and the federal government. Despite not yet having concrete plans for his post-term future, Green indicated his intention to continue serving the country and the state of Tennessee in some capacity.

Additionally, Green mentioned his intent to support former President Donald Trump’s reelection efforts, emphasizing his desire to depart on a high note and transition to his next phase of service in Tennessee and across the nation.
