In a stunning display of journalistic floundering, a HuffPost reporter fondly known for his less-than-stellar questioning skills found himself on the receiving end of a prime ribbed dressing down from the 45th president aboard Air Force One. S.V. Dáte, a senior correspondent from the floundering left-wing outlet, decided that it would be a good idea to lob a vague query toward Donald Trump about Vice President J.D. Vance and something that may or may not have involved rules. It quickly became apparent that both the reporter and the question were living in a world far removed from reality.
True to form, Trump didn’t take the bait. Instead of entertaining the nonsense, he cut right to the chase, leaving Dáte flustered and desperately clinging to his inadequately prepared question. After questioning Dáte’s very existence as a credible journalist, Trump quipped about the state of HuffPost. His observation that he thought the site had “died” was just icing on the cake. Apparently, the president gets his news from a better feed—like the one where real journalism happens.
As it turns out, this incident isn’t just a fluke; it’s reflective of the overall decline of the left-leaning media in the era after Trump took office. HuffPost, once the envy of liberal media trolls everywhere, is now more like an once-glorious ship that has run aground on the rocks of its own bias and agenda. With dwindling readership, layoffs, and an apparent lack of coherent thought among its staff, the site is operating at an all-time low. One has to wonder if managing a failed publication has become a rite of passage for wannabe journalists at places like HuffPost.

Dáte’s attempt to score points via a half-baked “gotcha” moment is a case study in desperation. Known for his overtly hostile and combative style, Dáte has previously demonstrated a knack for making himself the story rather than doing his job. Reflecting on his past transgressions, one remembers his 2020 inquiry about Trump “lying to the American people,” as if that wasn’t the pot calling the kettle black in the arena of political reporting.
As Trump navigates the political waters again, it’s painfully obvious that the liberal press is becoming increasingly erratic in its attempts at mock heroics. Whether it’s by grasping for headlines or throwing out nonsensical questions to prompt a response, one thing is clear—Trump remains an unshakable force while the leftist media finds itself floundering in a pond of its own making. The contrast couldn’t be starker: a powerhouse of a politician versus a feeble, confused journalist trying to squeeze relevance out of thin air. It’s a classic case of a heavyweight versus a lightweight, and the results speak for themselves.
