Former President Donald Trump turned a routine campaign event into a not-so-routine roast of President Biden on Monday, greatly amusing his audience in battleground Pennsylvania. The occasion was prompted by the news of a nearly 300-page impeachment report released by House Republicans, which left many scratching their heads about the finer details, but provided Trump plenty of ammunition.
The report, compiled by a trio of House committees, claimed that Biden committed impeachable conduct, though it stopped short of calling for his outright impeachment. Instead, it concluded that the Biden family raked in over $27 million through shady foreign business dealings. The White House retorted that the investigation was merely a “politically motivated” endeavor—because what else would they say in the face of increasing scrutiny? Trump, however, wasn’t having any of it, gleefully rehashing Biden’s reputation for corruption while launching a full-throated critique of the White House’s handling of the economy.

As Trump delivered his remarks at a machining manufacturer, he noted that while Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been busy impoverishing the nation, their bank accounts were ballooning. The audience erupted when Trump reminded them that the moniker “Crooked Joe” wasn’t just a catchy nickname—it’s a reflection of the mounting allegations against Biden that refuse to fade away. Who knew that the president’s influence-peddling could be viewed as a family business strategy?
In a weeklong campaign blitz designed to effectively counter the Democratic National Convention that was set to kick off just hours later, Trump made it clear that he intends to stay in the public eye, especially in Pennsylvania. His running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance, kept the momentum going with a campaign stop earlier in the day in north Philadelphia, suggesting a concerted effort to engage voters directly where it counts.
The White House, however, decidedly downplayed the impeachment report, dismissing it as a “failed stunt” in an effort to shed light on Biden’s alleged wrongdoings. This would be much easier to swallow if they weren’t frantically trying to distance themselves from even their own party members as they grasped at straws in the face of damning financial evidence. But who needs to be bothered with facts when they can resort to name-calling?
Trump, in his familiar outsider fashion, highlighted the failure of Democratic senators to notice the supposed surplus of money changing hands right under their noses. He insisted that if he had played the game the way they did, he’d be swimming in cash. Instead, he emphasized his serious commitment to serving the country, casting himself in stark contrast to the perceived corruption of the current administration. It’s hard to argue that he doesn’t enjoy the theatrics of political life.
As the event wrapped up, Trump’s jabs at Harris took on a new level of humor. Calling her “Comrade Kamala,” he painted a vivid picture of a senator who’s more interested in radical agendas than in serving the people. Trump’s rallying cry for Pennsylvania to “fire” Harris seemed to hit home, echoing the sentiments of an increasingly disillusioned voter base eager for change. The laughter that followed revealed one thing loud and clear: Trump wasn’t just campaigning; he was throwing down the gauntlet, and it was just as entertaining as it was political.
