Former President Donald Trump, the Republican frontrunner for president in 2024, sat down for an interview with Breitbart News to discuss the importance of the vice presidential nomination. Trump made it clear that he believes the vice presidential nod “has never made a difference” in the outcome of an election. Trump did not reveal who he would select as his running mate or provide a timeline for his decision-making process. However, he did acknowledge that there are plenty of qualified candidates within the Republican party. Trump emphasized the importance of winning, stating that if he doesn’t win the election, he believes the country would be “finished.” Though some donor-class establishment figures are pushing for Nikki Haley as Trump’s VP pick, he remains skeptical that her selection or anyone else’s would have a significant impact on the election outcome.
Trump’s remarks suggest that he is focused primarily on securing the nomination and appealing to his base of supporters. The upcoming Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary could be critical moments in the race, as Trump currently holds a significant lead in the polls.
