Trump Signs Order to Curb Bureaucratic Overreach, Boosts Executive Power

President Trump has once again taken the reins of government in a bold move that shuffles the bureaucratic power hierarchy, signing an executive order that cements authority in the hands of the president and the attorney general. This order removes federal regulators from dictating interpretations of laws and plunges the decision-making power back into the hands of elected officials—where it rightfully belongs. The message is clear: bureaucrats, take a backseat.

This shift is being touted as a return to “long-standing norms,” although many in the swamp might have other opinions. As Trump faces continuous lawsuits and judicial challenges from his detractors, this order effectively tells the courts that the buck stops at the Oval Office. No longer will federal agencies operate in a vacuum, free from presidential oversight—an arrangement that has allowed them to dictate terms and impose regulations with little accountability. It’s time for a little executive clarity that many have been clamoring for.

The order boldly points out the rampant overreach by prior administrations, which allowed “independent regulatory agencies” to run amok with little respect for presidential authority. It notes that these agencies have gained a hefty amount of executive power while skipping the accountability that should accompany such authority. When agencies can create substantial regulations without a nod from the President, it’s a recipe for bureaucratic chaos and a nightmare for ordinary Americans who just want to live their lives without being buried under layers of red tape.

In tandem with the executive order, Trump has signed a memorandum aimed at increasing transparency within federal agencies. This includes demands for federal departments to report any waste, fraud, or abuse found in their operations—a move stakeholders and taxpayers have been clamoring for. This so-called “radical transparency” is not merely about cleaning house; it’s a clarion call to make government accountable to the very citizens it serves, which is a rather refreshing break from the norm.

While critics will likely decry these actions as dictatorial, it’s clear that they stem from a need to rein in an out-of-control bureaucracy that has often acted like a rogue actor in government. By restoring power to the President and the Attorney General, Trump reinforces the principle that those in the highest offices should have the final say in interpreting laws that govern the land. Nothing says “America” quite like putting elected officials back in charge of the regulations that shape everyday life.
