Let’s take a moment to reflect on these appalling incidents where Americans lose their lives due to the actions of individuals who entered or stayed in the U.S. unlawfully. In cases beyond comprehension, these perpetrators stand out for their repeated offenses and complete disregard for human life, yet they ridiculously benefit from policies that arguably prioritize their rights over those of American citizens.
Consider the tragic fate of Richard Williams, an 83-year-old grandfather who courageously faced the trials of war and the harrowing fight against cancer, only to lose his life innocently standing on a New York subway platform. He was murdered by a foreign national unlawfully in the country, whose rap sheet looked more like a horror story than a rap sheet. Despite being deported a whopping four times, this unsavory character somehow found his way back. Some might wonder if there was a giant “Welcome Back” banner above the border just for him.
Likewise, Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old college freshman, was full of dreams and ambitions when she was tragically shot while simply taking a walk with friends. Her killer, another illegal immigrant, transformed a casual stroll into a nightmare. It’s disturbing how a young life was erased so coldly while politicians muttered about “wrong place, wrong time” as if public spaces in the United States should suddenly come with warning labels. Heaven forbid one ventures out expecting safety on a lakefront walk, right?
Then there’s the heart-wrenching case of Katie Abraham, who should have been celebrating another year of life. Instead, her family is left mourning her senseless death at the hands of a drunk driver who fled the scene. And the driver? Yep, you guessed it—unlawfully present in the country. Imagine her father’s grief as he reflects on policy failures that paved the way for this tragedy. It’s almost as if some politicians have PhDs in turning a blind eye to inconvenient truths while they clutch their sanctuary city policies like cherished teddy bears.
It’s baffling how some political figures ramble endlessly on public safety, emphasizing distant regions over the safety of their own constituents. Their rhetoric is coated in promises while their actions make sanctuaries not for the law-abiding citizens who voted them into power, but for those who flout the laws with impunity. The very phrase “he’ll face the full extent of the law” becomes laughably hollow when justice seems like an ungraspable myth for these families.
