In recent news, it seems that some politicians have decided to make heroes out of people who, quite frankly, shouldn’t be here in the first place. Senators are flying to El Salvador to meet with individuals like Kilmar Argo Garcia, who not only entered the country illegally but also holds a criminal record. It’s almost as though these politicians are more concerned with the well-being of those who break the law than they are with the safety of their own constituents.
Meanwhile, real American victims, like Jocelyn Nungare, Lake and Riley, and Rachel Morren, barely get a nod. These are people who have been hurt by the actions of those here illegally, yet their stories rarely receive the attention they deserve. One has to wonder if these politicians have ever taken the time to even speak the names of these victims out loud, let alone offer them any support. The silence is deafening.
Adding to this concerning narrative is the fact that there appears to be a growing acceptance, or at least a turning of the blind eye, to attacks on federal institutions. Just this week, there was a shocking, yet barely covered, incident in Idaho where a suspect attempted to burn down a Department of Homeland Security facility. It’s astonishing how quickly these acts of violence are swept under the rug, especially considering how mainstream the rhetoric against DHS has become, often labeling them as oppressive or worse.
And the problem doesn’t stop there. Schools are becoming breeding grounds for protest rather than education. Recently, a student with special needs felt unsafe returning to school after an anti-ICE protest erupted into lawlessness. Students even went as far as ransacking a local grocery store. Instead of focusing on math, reading, and writing, some teachers seem perfectly content to let their students take to the streets. It’s troubling to think that education is taking a back seat to activism, especially when the learning outcomes in some of these schools are already less than stellar.
In short, the current climate is a bit unsettling. Politicians are glorifying lawbreakers, left-wing violence is becoming more frequent (and more ignored), and schools are seemingly encouraging students to abandon classrooms for chaotic protests. It’s high time there was a shift in priorities—one that focuses on the safety and education of Americans rather than celebrating those who flout the law. Let’s hope a middle ground can be found, but as it stands, the situation seems to be spiraling further away from reason.
