Biden Awards Medals Mostly to Democrats, Signals Political Bias

President Biden will be awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor for regular citizens, to a group of people from his Democratic Party. There are 19 recipients in total, with five of them being well-known Democrats who have supported President Biden’s plans, including one who worked in his administration.

President Biden’s choices show how this award, which is given to people who have made a big contribution to the country, has become more about one political party. Some of the Democrats who will be recognized by President Biden include Rep. James Clyburn, Former Vice President Al Gore, John Kerry, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, and Michael Bloomberg. President Biden will also give the award posthumously to Frank Lautenberg, a former Democratic senator. He will also be honoring one Republican, Elizabeth Dole.

President Biden has given out 17 medals since 2022, mostly to civil rights leaders and athletes. In the past, this award was supposed to be about honoring people who have made a difference in the country, but it has become more about politics in recent years.

In the past, former President Trump gave the medal to a big donor to the Republican Party and talk-show host Rush Limbaugh, as well as some well-known conservatives. Former President Obama also honored Democrats and Republicans with this award.

Other people receiving the Medal of Freedom from President Biden include civil rights activists, athletes, talk-show host Phil Donahue, and actress Michelle Yeoh.
