In a shocking twist of events, it has come to light that President Joe Biden was kept in the dark about Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s battle with prostate cancer. That’s right folks, the commander-in-chief was left clueless about his right-hand man’s health struggles. What in the world is going on in the Biden administration?!

According to a National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby, Biden only got wind of Austin’s medical woes on Tuesday – over a month after the diagnosis and surgery took place. It’s not a good look for the White House when the big man himself is being kept out of the loop. It’s like trying to keep a lid on a boiling pot of spaghetti sauce – messy, and a little concerning.
The saga took a turn when on January 5, the Pentagon revealed that Austin was hospitalized due to complications from an “elective medical procedure.” But wait, there’s more! It turns out that Austin was admitted to the hospital on December 22, underwent a prostatectomy, and even had to transfer some of his responsibilities to Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks. This has “cover-up” written all over it, and not the good kind you put on a chair to make it look nice.
To add insult to injury, Austin suffered from nausea and abdominal pain on January 1, and it wasn’t until January 4 that he finally let Biden in on the secret. Yikes! Between U.S. military involvement in conflicts abroad and ongoing security threats, it’s no wonder Congress is up in arms about this lack of communication.
Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Jack Reed (D-RI) didn’t hold back, expressing his concern that vital chain of command procedures were not followed. He’s just as bewildered as the rest of us and wants some answers.
The drama didn’t end there. The Pentagon and the White House are now scrambling to do damage control with their own investigations, but the burning question remains: How on earth did the president not know sooner that his top guy was down for the count?
And if that’s not enough, even Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy jumped into the mix, confronting John Kirby and asking the tough questions. Kirby did his best to defend the administration, but the damage has been done.
This whole debacle has left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. The lack of transparency and communication is leaving folks scratching their heads – and it’s not a good look for the Biden administration. Let’s hope they get their act together, and fast.
