Democratic Sen. Laphonza Butler of California has taken issue with President Joe Biden’s choice of words when describing the alleged killer of nursing student Laken Riley as an “illegal.” Butler deemed Biden’s terminology as “unfortunate,” showcasing the typical liberal response of prioritizing political correctness over reality.

Riley’s alleged murderer, Jose Antonio Ibarra, an undocumented immigrant from Venezuela who unlawfully crossed the U.S.-Mexico border, was apprehended by University of Georgia authorities for the tragic incident. In a moment brought on by Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s persistence, Biden referenced the situation in a State of the Union address, fumbling even the victim’s name, which just goes to show how detached he is.
While some left-leaning politicians like Butler rushed to criticize Biden for using the term “illegal,” accusing him of echoing Trump, they conveniently ignore how such individuals have broken the law by trespassing into the United States. Rather than center their outrage on the victim and the enforcement of existing immigration laws, these Democrats opt to jump on the virtue-signaling bandwagon.
Butler tried to soften the blow of Biden’s misstep by suggesting he veered back to his supposedly empathetic self after the slip-up. This kind of pandering to the President’s emotional appeal is all too common among liberals, masking their support for open borders behind a facade of compassion.
Biden’s swift dismantling of several border security measures put in place by his predecessor, Donald Trump, has led to a massive surge in encounters with illegal immigrants at the U.S. border. The data from the Customs and Border Protection agency speaks volumes, with millions of unlawful entries documented since Biden took office, portraying the dire consequences of lax enforcement and misguided policies.
When it comes to matters of national security and upholding the rule of law, it’s crucial not to let emotions cloud judgment. Democrats like Butler may choose to downplay the severity of illegal immigration, but the reality is that Americans deserve better than leaders who prioritize political posturing over protecting their safety and sovereignty.
