After a six-day sabbatical at his beach house in Delaware—commonly referred to as the “Presidential Hideaway”—President Joe Biden has finally ventured back into the public eye. This so-called “working vacation” came in light of his COVID-19 diagnosis, drawing raised eyebrows and some disbelief about how a president supposedly engaged in his duties can be completely absent from public view. One might ponder if Biden has discovered a new magic trick: the art of disappearing just when America needs its leader most.
The White House has kept its residents on their toes, refusing to publish any photographic evidence of Biden fulfilling his duties while secluded by the ocean. Meanwhile, his physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, assures everyone that Biden was on the ball and methodically completing his presidential responsibilities from the comfort of his sandy retreat. It seems the rest of the nation is left to speculate what “working” entails when your office is a beach cabana and not the Oval Office.
Interestingly, prior to his grand re-entrance to the world stage, Dr. O’Connor offered up a health update that reads like spin straight out of a political playbook. His memo claimed that Biden experienced no fever and maintained “stellar” vital signs. Such glowing reports raise suspicions that it’s not just his health that’s being monitored, but also the optics of a commander-in-chief trying to dodge more negative headlines during a tumultuous political season.

What’s even more curious is the timing of Biden’s public return coinciding with his unexpected exit from the 2024 presidential race. Just as he surfaced to face the cameras again, he let the world know he’s stepping down to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris. This revelation not only stole headlines but also left many to wonder how Harris plans to not only take on her current role but also level up to presidential candidate status.
In classic Biden fashion, his comeback includes a national address to explain his political maneuvering. This is the same individual who has spent much of his presidency trying to convince the country that he’s in charge, yet often pops up out of sight when it matters most. His supporters have a Herculean task ahead of them, defending their candidate’s six-day hiatus while simultaneously advocating for their new champion, the Vice President. If there was ever proof of the “out of sight, out of mind” theory, this might just be it for the Biden administration.
