Biden Exploits Georgia Tragedy to Push Harsher Gun Laws

The tragedy in Georgia has reignited President Biden’s fervor for gun control, as he seized the moment to call for even stricter restrictions in the wake of a mass shooting that took place at a local high school. A 14-year-old named Colt Gray is currently in custody, charged with the absurdity of being a teenager with a gun and apparently not having enough adult supervision at home. Rather than evaluating the underlying issues, Biden chose the convenient route of blaming the absence of overly restrictive gun laws, suggesting that if only more laws existed, this incident could have been avoided.

Biden, in his effort to steer the conversation, emphasized the necessity for safe storage of firearms, invoking his own practices of locking up his guns. It’s almost comical that the President believes locking up your gun will somehow solve the societal issues at play. As if a new law mandating that guns must be secured could magically prevent teenagers from acting out in the most horrific ways. If only the solution were as simple as passing more laws and expecting everyone to suddenly become responsible gun owners.

The President has been pushing for gun control throughout his tenure, eyeing a revival of the “assault weapons” ban that mysteriously didn’t keep criminals from obtaining weapons during its decade in existence. His latest rhetoric places the blame squarely on parents, claiming they should be held accountable if their children manage to gain access to firearms. It seems Biden is overlooking the fact that, while parents do bear a degree of responsibility, a criminal will find a way to harm others regardless of the legality of the weapon in question. The real problem lies elsewhere, far beyond just the guns themselves.

Adding to the absurdity, the FBI had already received various tips about Gray’s online threats, yet it seems no decisive action was taken to prevent this tragedy. Instead of addressing the systemic failures of the criminal justice system or the responsibility of parents and local authorities in monitoring their children, Biden’s administration dives straight into more regulations that only serve to punish law-abiding citizens who are merely trying to protect themselves and their families. It’s as if there’s a belief that more laws will somehow deter criminals who, by definition, do not follow laws.

While Biden was busy in Wisconsin attempting to sway voters by talking about the economy—because that’s what the public really craves hearing from their leaders in times of tragedy—Vice President Harris also jumped onto the gun control bandwagon. She echoed the sentiment that this “epidemic of gun violence” must come to an end. The irony of politicians offering condolences while simultaneously proposing legislation that infringes upon the rights of responsible gun owners isn’t lost on those who see through the smoke and mirrors.

As the Biden administration reaches for even more measures that could potentially violate Second Amendment rights in response to tragic events, one has to wonder when they will start addressing the real issues at hand. Is it more laws that are needed, or a deeper understanding of community and parental responsibility, as well as real solutions that focus on personal accountability rather than punishing those who legally own firearms?
