President Biden recently had a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where he insisted that Israel share their plans for invading Rafah with the United States beforehand. This demand, supposedly to protect civilians in Rafah, is a clear overreach of power by the Biden administration. The idea that the White House needs to approve a sovereign nation's military strategies is disrespectful and sets a dangerous precedent for international relations.
The White House mentioned that the call focused on Israel’s security, recent defense efforts against Iran, and discussions about securing the release of hostages and implementing a ceasefire in Gaza. However, the real issue arose when the topic of Rafah was brought up. President Biden’s push for Israel to wait for U.S. approval before taking action in Rafah is a blatant display of control that undermines Israel’s autonomy and right to self-defense. It’s important to remember that Israel is a key ally in the Middle East and should be treated as such.

The National Security Council spokesperson, John Kirby, revealed that Israeli leaders have promised to wait for U.S. input before proceeding with their plans in Rafah. This kind of submission to American authority is concerning and diminishes Israel’s ability to act decisively in the face of security threats. Netanyahu, who has faced criticism and interference from the Biden administration in the past, may rightfully feel frustrated with these unjust demands.
From a conservative perspective, it is evident that President Biden’s approach to foreign policy, particularly regarding Israel, is flawed and weak. The U.S. should support its allies rather than attempt to micromanage their military decisions. Netanyahu has the right to prioritize the safety and security of his nation without seeking approval from Washington. It is crucial for the U.S. to respect the sovereignty of other nations and not overstep boundaries in international affairs.
