The Biden administration continues to make moves that demonstrate its lack of interest in securing the border. In a recent development, portions of the Mexican-American border wall that was constructed under Donald Trump are being dismantled, disposed of, and even auctioned off. The Pentagon has confirmed these reports, admitting that they are selling “wall materials” on the auction site GovPlanet.
To add insult to injury, the Department of Defense has instructed GovPlanet not to mention Trump when promoting the wall materials. It’s clear that they want to distance themselves from anything associated with the previous administration, even if it means denying the reality of what these materials are. It’s a shame that political correctness takes precedence over the truth.
Meanwhile, Yuma County Supervisor Jonathan Lines is frustrated with the Biden administration’s decision, particularly because he was expecting them to address the gaps in Arizona’s border wall. The Department of Homeland Security had previously announced plans to seal the gaps at Yuma’s Morelos Dam, but now it seems they have changed course. This is just another example of government waste and mismanagement.
All of this is happening at a time when illegal immigration to the United States is surging. There has been a 33% increase in illegal crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border between June and July. Instead of taking decisive action to secure the border, the Biden administration is dismantling and disposing of the very infrastructure that could help deter illegal immigration.
It’s frustrating to see taxpayer dollars being wasted on storing and maintaining these materials while the border remains unsecured. Republican Senate Armed Forces Committee members have sent a letter to Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Hemispheric Affairs Melissa Dalton, expressing their concern over the cost of storing the border wall panels. They point out that the Department of Defense is paying $130,000 each day to store, maintain, and secure these materials. This is yet another example of the Biden administration’s misplaced priorities.
Overall, the dismantling and auctioning off of Trump’s border wall is a clear indication that the Biden administration is more interested in erasing the accomplishments of the previous administration than in actually securing the border. It’s a slap in the face to the American people who are relying on their government to protect their safety and security.
