Flashback to the year 2019 and 2020, when the bumbling President Joe Biden promised illegal immigrants that they could waltz right into the country once he took office. He even had the audacity to declare that those seeking asylum should be “absorbed” by the United States. It’s clear that Biden’s open borders rhetoric has had real consequences, as the current border crisis continues to spiral out of control.

According to a report by Axios, Biden has been throwing tantrums and berating his team over the border crisis. He expected his staff to have obscure immigration data at their fingertips, and when they didn’t, he was left fuming. It’s no wonder that this issue has been treated like a “hot potato,” with nobody in the administration willing to take ownership of the problem.
Even a former senior official from the Biden administration admitted that Vice President Kamala Harris has been utterly ineffective in dealing with the border crisis. She has shirked her responsibility and failed to step up when needed. It’s not surprising, considering the rocky relationship between Harris and Biden during the Democrat primary. From attacking him as a racist to Jill Biden openly expressing her reservations about Harris, it was clear that she was destined to fail on the border issue.
But the surprises don’t end there. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan decided to hand off most of the border portfolio to Liz Sherwood-Randall, someone with little experience on immigration issues. The extent of her incompetence was evident when she requested a memo explaining the difference between refugees and asylum seekers. These are basic terms that any middle schooler should be familiar with. It is truly mind-boggling that a member of the Biden administration would be so ignorant about immigration terminology.
The internal turmoil within the Biden administration has led to a series of disastrous policy decisions. Biden halted the “Remain in Mexico” program implemented by Trump, which effectively dealt with asylum seekers. Instead, he resorted to using pandemic-era restrictions to send asylum seekers back to Mexico. The administration also extended temporary protections for Venezuelans in the U.S., only to announce plans to deport them weeks later. They even abandoned the practice of holding undocumented families in detention centers, opting for ineffective ankle bracelets and other monitoring methods. And now, as conditions at the border worsen, Biden is considering restarting the detention program.
It’s clear that the Biden administration’s policies are driven by their disdain for former President Trump rather than what actually works. Even a program like “Remain in Mexico,” which was successful in managing the influx of illegal immigrants, was overturned simply because Trump implemented it. This level of pettiness and disregard for effective policies is astounding.
As the House GOP voted to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas, the Secretary of Homeland Security, the border and illegal migration will undoubtedly be key issues in the 2024 election. The Biden administration’s mishandling of the border crisis since they invited migrants to flood into America in 2021 is a glaring example of their incompetence and disregard for national security. It’s time for conservatives to rally behind strong candidates who will prioritize border security and put an end to this disastrous open borders agenda.
