House Speaker Mike Johnson has strongly criticized President Joe Biden's sudden shift towards considering executive action to tackle the border security crisis, particularly in light of the upcoming State of the Union address. Johnson condemned the President for ignoring the repeated pleas from Republicans, big city mayors, border state governors, and the American public for an extended period. "The American people have lost trust in this President and are not easily swayed by last-minute maneuvers that fail to effectively secure the border," Johnson asserted. "The President's delayed response is merely an attempt to salvage his reputation after allowing this crisis to escalate and previously claiming he lacked the authority to address it."
Johnson didn't mince words in questioning the timing of Biden's potential executive order, labeling it as a tactic aimed at gaining favor during an election year. "After relinquishing control of the border to cartels and smugglers, resulting in tragic fentanyl overdoses, exposing minors to human trafficking, and dispersing millions of illegal immigrants across our nation, the President suddenly seeks to wield authority he previously denied possessing," Johnson remarked. "It's evident that the President misled the public when he asserted he had exhausted all options to secure the border. His sudden interest in invoking Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which the White House had previously dismissed, underscores his deception."

Meanwhile, Biden is encountering resistance from within his own party, as Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has publicly opposed the potential executive action and urged the President to refrain from pursuing it. Despite this internal pushback, Johnson and his Republican colleagues remain skeptical of Biden's intentions and are prepared to hold him accountable for the ongoing border crisis.
