Democrats have spent years in denial about President Biden’s cognitive fitness, all while he repeatedly serves up head-scratchers and baffling statements on a silver platter. It seems like they simply can’t accept the obvious reality, but after recent developments, even the most steadfast supporters might start to question their own judgment.
Last week, House Speaker Mike Johnson shed some light on a perplexing meeting with the president where Biden seemed entirely oblivious to one of his own policy decisions. Johnson confronted him about pausing liquefied natural gas exports, asking why the president would put a halt to a move that would have benefited our allies in Europe. One can only imagine the blank stare that must have crossed Biden’s face as he stood there, utterly confused about signing a policy he engineered. A nerve-racking glimpse into the state of leadership in a world where mental acuity is a must.

This includes relying on teleprompters even for intimate fundraisers and forcing potential donors to submit questions in advance, because who wouldn’t want their president to account for his answers? It’s like watching a sitcom where the main character has to rely on cue cards to remember his lines. Just picture it: the leader of the free world needing a little extra help reading the room.
In a move that sparks both amusement and concern, aides are said to have delayed sharing unpleasant polling data with the president. Apparently, the team is more concerned about protecting his fragile ego than letting him in on essential information. What could possibly go wrong when the person at the helm of the nation is treated like a delicate flower who might wilt from bad news? The circus continues as aides shepherd him from the White House to the helicopter to ensure that no awkward moments are caught on camera—because nothing says “presidential” like a well-staged exit.
Despite all evidence suggesting a downward cognitive spiral, Biden remains steadfast in his belief that he would have beaten Donald Trump if he had not tapped Kamala Harris to join his campaign. The rich irony here is that while the president’s team might block external scrutiny, he still indulges in the fantasy that he stands triumphantly victorious over a former president. Maybe someone should alert him that all the brain gymnastics in the world won’t alter the past or improve the optics of current cognitive challenges. The only thing more ridiculous than Biden’s grasp on reality seems to be the Democrats’ reluctance to face it head-on.
