President Joe Biden is once again causing a ruckus among Republicans, this time for failing to meet his deadlines to submit important plans to Congress. The SUBMIT Act, cleverly named to poke fun at the president’s shortcomings, is being championed by brave GOP members like Georgia’s own Rep. Buddy Carter and Iowa’s Sen. Joni Ernst. These fearless lawmakers are tired of Joe Biden’s blatant disregard for the rules and are taking a stand to hold him accountable.

It’s no surprise that Biden, who seems to be stuck in a perpetual state of tardiness, has once again missed the mark by failing to provide Congress with his budget and national security strategies on time. The Budget and Accounting Act of 1921 and the National Security Act of 1947 clearly outline these requirements, but it appears that our dear president missed the memo. And now, Republicans are saying enough is enough.
Rep. Carter didn’t hold back when he stated that Biden has no business giving a State of the Union address if he can’t even stick to simple deadlines. Sen. Ernst echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that if Biden wants to address the nation, he better come prepared with a plan. No more empty promises and vague speeches, the American people deserve more from their leader.
And who can blame them for wanting more? With inflation on the rise and global tensions boiling over, it’s imperative that the president gets his act together. Republicans are not playing games, and with the SUBMIT Act, they are ready to add some much-needed teeth to these legislative deadlines. Americans for Prosperity senior fellow Kurt Couchman is right on the money in supporting this bill as a smart way to keep our elected officials in check.
So, will President Biden finally learn his lesson and start playing by the rules? Only time will tell. But one thing is for sure, Republicans are not backing down, and they’re not about to let Joe off the hook this time. The SUBMIT Act is just the beginning of their mission to hold this administration accountable and make sure that the president does his job properly. Biden better buckle up, because the GOP is not here to play nice.
