In the midst of increasing global unrest and President Joe Biden’s increasingly questionable grip on reality, the glaring question arises: who’s really steering the ship of U.S. foreign policy? With Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris attempting to juggle the simmering crisis in the Middle East, it’s hard to feel confident that competent leadership exists at all.
Biden convened a high-stakes brainstorming session with his senior national security team to discuss the escalating prospects of a broad Middle East war. Anyone paying attention knows that the tensions in this region have been precarious since the deadly Hamas attacks on Israel back in October. The situation recently ratcheted up further, with Israel reportedly eliminating high-profile targets linked to Hamas and Hezbollah, which only escalates the threat from Iran’s proxies.

In the aftermath of a rocket barrage on a U.S. base in Iraq — allegedly orchestrated by Iranian-backed militia groups — it was noted that several American personnel were injured. Such incidents are becoming all too common, leading many to wonder if Biden’s strategy of “engaging” with Iran is just a ticket to further chaos. The Biden administration’s approach to diplomacy, characterized by an unsettling degree of finger-pointing and blame-shifting, certainly seems to encourage malicious actors like Iran.
As U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken earnestly declared that the administration is working around the clock to avert conflict, skeptics might question exactly what that entails. In a world where bold action is needed, this lengthy, tiresome speech about engaging in “intense diplomacy” may sound more like wishful thinking than effective strategy. Conservatives are left scratching their heads, wondering if the Department of State has traded in decisiveness for endless discussions that seem to get nowhere.
Meanwhile, critics from within the Republican ranks have pointed fingers at Biden’s notorious soft touch with Iran. Rather than standing firm against aggression, the administration’s underwhelming response has seemingly empowered Iranian-backed terrorists. The liberal inclination to favor “understanding” over strength has been vividly highlighted by the dramatic uptick in attacks on U.S. personnel, stemming directly from what some refer to as the administration’s cowardly appeasement strategy. With the belligerence of rogue nations increasingly evident, it’s hard not to feel that Biden is handling foreign tensions with the same careful enthusiasm that kids show when playing with firecrackers.
As the crisis escalates and the world watches, Americans can hardly help but feel the looming uncertainty about their safety on a global scale. The call for a return to tough negotiations on the world stage is louder than ever. Still, for many, the possibility of an effective policy coming out of this administration feels more distant than peace in the Middle East. In the words of many a concerned patriot, it’s time to ask whether we’re being led into a full-scale foreign policy catastrophe by a team that clearly seems in over its head.
