On Wednesday, the Biden administration launched yet another attack on a Christian college in Arizona, with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filing a lawsuit against Grand Canyon University, the largest Christian school in the nation. The FTC complaint reveals that the university touted its “accelerated” doctoral programs as equal to the cost of just 20 courses, when in reality, the school required almost all doctoral students to take additional “continuation courses” that added thousands of dollars to the total cost. The agency also pointed out that fewer than 2% of GCU doctoral program graduates completed their studies within the cost advertised by the school, with nearly 78% of students taking five or more continuation courses. These findings demonstrate the extent of the university’s deceptive practices and the financial burden they placed on their students.
Not content with the hefty fine from the Department of Education, the federal government is now seeking to force Grand Canyon University to compensate students and change its policies to prevent further violations of the law. The college, which boasts 25,800 in-person students and an additional 92,000 online, has been accused of violating the FTC Act and the Telemarketing Sales Rule.
