BLM’s Money Trail Exposed: Activism or Greed?

Amidst accusations of financial impropriety, the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, which purports to advocate for racial justice, approaches the situation. According to records from the Federal Election Commission, the principal BLM organization's political action committee (PAC) incurred the largest portion of its expenses on a consulting firm that belonged to the PAC's treasurer. In 2023, the Black Lives Matter PAC remunerated Bowers Consulting Firm with $90,000 for "strategic consulting services." Shalomyah Bowers, the treasurer of the PAC, is concurrently the founding president of the consulting firm.

Currently, allow us to pause momentarily and reflect upon this. Additionally, the proprietor of the consulting firm that the PAC is remunerating is also the treasurer of the PAC. Doesn't that seem a little strange to you? It would be as if your instructor had paid you to complete your students' assignments. That simply is not fair! But it appears to be permissible in the perverse world of politics. Bowers and other super PAC treasurers are authorized to approve expenditures on behalf of a political committee.

However, the kicker is as follows. In 2023, the consulting firm amassed approximately 61% of the total expenditures of the PAC. The consequence was that the treasurer obtained the preponderance of the contributions made to the Black Lives Matter PAC. It resembles an endless cycle of personal development. Furthermore, what did the remaining funds appear to be that the PAC spent? Very little. A mere $10,000 was allocated towards advertising, with the remainder being utilised for administrative costs. Thus, despite the PAC's assertion that contributions will be used to elect candidates on the left-wing platform, their financial statements for 2023 indicate that they neither supported nor opposed candidates with a single dime.

This further demonstrates that these purportedly progressive organizations are merely schemes to generate revenue. In spite of their professed advocacy for the marginalized and oppressed, their true motivation appears to be personal financial gain. Everything is a fraud, people. And the time has come for someone to expose it.

Undoubtedly, however, defenders of the corrupt will always exist. Craig Holman, a consumer advocacy organization's government affairs lobbyist, asserts that while it is lawful to compensate officers' businesses, doing so raises "serious ethical concerns." It is evident that these organizations do not care about ethics, although I am pleased that he is concerned about them. Their only concern is pocket-lining for themselves.

Furthermore, Bowers has been accused of abusing his position for personal benefit on multiple occasions in the past. Between 2020 and 2021, the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, the nonprofit affiliated with the PAC, remunerated Bowers' consulting firm with more than $2 million. Bowers was accused in a lawsuit filed by a former activist of using the nonprofit as a "piggy bank." Ultimately, the litigation was dismissed; however, this merely serves to underscore the individual's consistent exploitation of said organizations.

Consider this the next time you encounter the Black Lives Matter movement requesting donations. Do you genuinely wish for your hard-earned cash to be spent by corrupt individuals? I did not believe so. Transparency and accountability must now be demanded of these purportedly progressive organizations. It is sufficient!
