Tom Homan told Breitbart’s Alex Marlow in no uncertain terms that anyone who entered or remains in this country illegally has broken the law and should not expect to be immune from enforcement. He made plain that while the administration will prioritize violent criminals and national-security threats, being here without authorization is itself a crime and “not off the table” for removal.
As President Trump’s appointed border czar, Homan is not a talk-radio tough guy — he’s the man now charged with turning campaign promises into policy on the ground. His installment signals the administration’s willingness to move from rhetoric to real enforcement, which conservatives have been calling for after years of permissive policies that left communities vulnerable.
Homan has repeatedly emphasized that ICE will focus on those who threaten public safety, but he also reminded Americans there are more than a million convicted criminal aliens with final orders out there who will be targeted. That practical, tiered approach is commonsense: prioritize the worst offenders first, then work the broader caseload, instead of letting politics or sanctuary jurisdictions dictate who gets protected.
He’s also urged noncriminal migrants to self-deport rather than wait for raids — a humane, orderly option that lets families leave together and get their affairs in order, rather than creating chaotic headlines Democrats relish. Homan has warned that failure to comply could lead to stiffer penalties and enforcement actions, which should serve as a wake-up call to anyone relying on political theater to avoid accountability.
Make no mistake: carrying out this kind of enforcement at scale requires money and logistics — Homan and others have warned about the need for vastly expanded detention capacity and serious funding to get the job done. If the left wants to argue against enforcing immigration law, they should be honest about the human and financial cost of refusing to secure the border and protect American neighborhoods.
The predictable shrieks from the political class and their media friends shouldn’t distract us; Democrats who defend open borders care more about votes and virtue-signaling than the safety of ordinary citizens. Patriots who pay taxes and obey the law deserve a government that defends its borders and enforces the rules fairly — not one that rewards lawbreaking with residency by default.
Homan’s blunt message is a reminder that laws matter and that the country’s sovereignty is not negotiable. If the administration follows through, hardworking Americans will see enforcement where laxity once reigned, and that will be a victory for common-sense order, public safety, and the rule of law.
