At a House Homeland Security Committee hearing in McAllen, Texas on Wednesday, Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz emphasized the importance of Trump-era policies in managing the southern border. The Biden administration has already undone several of these policies, including those that limited asylum and prioritized deportations. Ortiz contends that reinstating these measures, along with "Remain in Mexico," which permits federal border officials to redirect migrants to Mexico to wait for their asylum hearings, could improve border security.
