In the ongoing debate surrounding illegal immigration, it is crucial to separate emotions from the facts. The primary concern of those who oppose illegal immigration is not rooted in racism or xenophobia, but rather in the tangible threats that come with unchecked borders. There are serious consequences to consider, including the rise in organized crime, human trafficking, and drug trade. These are not mere side effects but direct results of a system that allows illegal immigration to flourish.
Consider the disturbing reality of children being smuggled across the border. There have been numerous instances where individuals posing as parents are actually part of human trafficking rings. These criminals exploit vulnerable children, bringing them into the United States with no verification or protection. This is an alarming practice, and it underscores the failure of current border policies to prevent such crimes against humanity. To claim to care about child abuse and trafficking but ignore the role illegal immigration plays in this crisis is a grave contradiction.
Crime rates are another pressing concern. While some neighboring countries may experience a decline in crime, the opposite occurs in the United States as organized crime does not vanish at the border. Instead, it crosses the border and becomes part of the societal fabric. Drug trafficking and other illegal activities continue, largely unchecked. If citizens can face consequences for illegal activities, it stands to reason that entering a country illegally should be no different.
