Something big is unfolding in California and hardworking Americans deserve the raw facts — not the usual media soft-peddling. Conservative influencer Benny Johnson publicly announced he and a team were traveling to California to “expose” what he calls massive fraud, and his videos lit up the internet and conservative circles overnight. Major outlets and fact-checkers have pushed back on specific clips, but the broader question remains: why is the Golden State awash in scandal while its governor laughs it off?
Johnson’s Venice video — the one showing a vacant lot and claiming 26 registrations tied to a row of portable toilets — was promptly debunked by PolitiFact and AFP, which explained the address was linked to a former homeless shelter and that state law permits those experiencing homelessness to use such locations for registration. Conservatives can be frustrated when a claim is rushed out, and that frustration shouldn’t be used by the left to silence a legitimate demand for accountability. Admitting when a detail is wrong is fine; ignoring a culture of mismanagement is not.
Rather than answer those concerns, Governor Gavin Newsom’s office chose to mock the messenger — even making a crude Grindr joke at the expense of a conservative investigator. That tone-deaf response tells you everything you need to know about the arrogance in Sacramento: when allegations of mismanagement start getting traction, the first instinct of Newsom’s team is to sneer instead of to cooperate. Americans who pay the bills deserve straight answers, not punchlines.
And the problem in Newsom’s orbit is not just internet dust-ups; it’s real corruption facing real people. Newsom’s former chief of staff was arrested and later indicted on federal charges alleging the siphoning of campaign funds and other serious offenses — an investigation that has exposed opaque deals and cozy corridors of power. If the governor wants to run for higher office and lecture the country, he should first clean house and explain how this happened on his watch.
Conservatives aren’t buying the “no idea” defense. Online whistleblowers and citizen journalists have flooded inboxes with tips alleging billions in misdirected COVID relief, bloated homeless contracts, and SNAP irregularities — claims that, taken together, paint a picture of institutional rot that demands a subpoena, not a meme. Whether every allegation stands up in court is another matter, but the pattern of dysfunction is undeniable and voters have a right to see officials answer under oath.
Here’s the plain, patriotic truth: we should welcome investigations and we should demand sworn testimony from the people in power — including Governor Newsom — until every dollar and every decision is explained. Conservatives will keep pushing for transparency, because accountability is how you restore trust in government and protect taxpayers. If Newsom has nothing to hide, then bring him to the table, put him under oath, and let the facts speak — that’s how a free country works.
