Carl Higbie Slams America’s ‘Stupid’ Tax System for Wasting Cash

Every April, Americans are reminded just how much of their hard-earned money is siphoned away by government at every level. Tax Day isn’t a celebration—it’s a painful annual ritual, a stark reminder that no matter how many taxes are withheld from your paycheck, the government always seems to want more. For working families, it feels like running a marathon only to be told at the finish line that you owe extra for the privilege of participating. The frustration is palpable: after months of labor, Americans are forced to hand over even more, all while wondering where their money actually goes.

It’s not just the federal government with its hand in your pocket. State and local governments pile on with property taxes, annual car fees, tolls, and a dizzying array of other charges. Even family outings, like a child’s cheerleading tournament, become a gauntlet of fees and taxes. The American taxpayer is nickel-and-dimed at every turn, funding a bloated bureaucracy that seems more interested in sustaining itself than serving the people. The system is so convoluted that it feels like a shell game, with your money vanishing into layers of government waste and inefficiency.

And what does Washington do with all this money? Far too often, it’s squandered on projects that defy common sense. Recent investigations have exposed millions wasted on absurd initiatives—like “DEI musicals” in Ireland, transgender operas in Colombia, and even funding for organizations linked to terrorism. Meanwhile, hundreds of millions are lost to improper Medicare payments, outdated IRS technology, and government offices so mismanaged that no one even knows if they’re still in use. The list of waste, fraud, and abuse is endless, and it’s the American taxpayer who foots the bill.

To make matters worse, taxpayers are forced to watch as their dollars are funneled into benefits for those living in the country illegally. Despite laws on the books, previous administrations allowed billions to flow toward programs that incentivize illegal immigration, straining public resources and rewarding those who break the law. Thankfully, new executive orders are finally moving to end this madness, prioritizing benefits for American citizens and putting an end to taxpayer-funded handouts for illegal aliens. It’s about time the government remembered who it’s supposed to serve.

The tax code itself is a monstrosity—over four million words long, with thousands of changes every year. The average American now spends 13 hours and nearly $300 just to file their taxes, with compliance costs reaching a staggering $464 billion annually. This isn’t just an inconvenience; it’s a hidden tax on your time and productivity. True reform means not just lowering rates, but slashing paperwork, rooting out waste, and demanding real accountability. Americans deserve a government that respects their labor and spends their money wisely—not one that treats their paychecks as a slush fund for bureaucratic pet projects and giveaways. It’s time for a tax system that puts the people first, rewards hard work, and restores faith in the American dream.
