China Exploits US Birthright Citizenship Loophole Again

In the latest saga of American citizenship debates, the highest court in the land is now tackling the thorny issue of birthright citizenship, thanks to former President Trump’s indefatigable attempt to rein in the sprawling mess that is U.S. immigration policy. It’s a straightforward concept: Should children born in the country to mothers who are here illegally, on short-term visas, or merely passing through as visitors automatically become citizens? No surprises here, the left has already dialed up the volume to eleven, spinning the courtroom into a veritable three-ring circus.

Scores gathered to watch the proceedings, and predictably, Democratic voices rang out in a cacophony of disapproval. Their argument hinges precariously on a single phrase from the 14th Amendment—”subject to the jurisdiction.” To some, this means if you’re within U.S. borders, congratulations, you’re included. However, this was never meant to cover tourists or those evading deportation, and certainly not those whose allegiance lies elsewhere.

Let’s pull back the curtain on “birth tourism,” a pocket-filling industry for some countries, most notably China. It’s a crafty scheme: fly in under the radar, give birth to a future American passport-holder, and jet home, all while Uncle Sam foots the bill. Apparently, nearly one in ten births in the States today fall under this troubling category—what a tangled web we weave.

Justice Alito cut through the nonsense with the clarity of a surgeon’s scalpel. If you can be kicked out at any moment, how on earth are you establishing a permanent home? Oh, the irony of having federal laws, but no federal action. So while some folks work the system, others are left shaking their heads and opening their wallets.

Congress, the supposed knights in shining armor, might need to step in, but let’s not hold our breath. With birthright citizenship used as a strategic political tool, not least by our pals across the aisle aiming to bolster future Democratic voters, this is one mess gold-plated in pure political necessity. Meanwhile, conservative observers chuckle at the thought of a solution mired in bureaucratic red tape—so transparent that it would allow the voters to see clean through it.
