Chris Salcedo: Why Our Iran Tensions Don’t Mean War

Over the weekend, the United States made headlines around the globe with a striking military operation aimed at Iran’s notorious nuclear facilities. Yes, that’s right! President Trump delivered the command to target three key locations where this troublesome regime has been pursuing its nuclear ambitions for far too long: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. These sites have been the focus of international concern as Iran built its dangerous nuclear programs, raising red flags all over the world. But now, thanks to a well-coordinated effort by our armed forces, those facilities have been decisively taken out of action.

It was a classic display of American military might, executed flawlessly. Imagine the coordination! B-2 bombers swooped down, joined by a fleet of support aircraft in a tightly synchronized maneuver that would make even the most seasoned strategists proud. Meanwhile, U.S. submarines launched a salvo of Tomahawk missiles targeting crucial infrastructure in Esfahan. This operation, dubbed “Midnight Hammer,” sent a clear message to both allies and adversaries: the U.S. is not to be trifled with. And let’s be honest, this kind of precise operation is what America does best—after all, there’s no other military quite like ours!

Now, it may seem surprising, but while the world watched in awe, there were notable murmurs of concern from certain quarters right here at home. Interestingly, some Democrats, despite their previous silence during military actions under past administrations, found their voices just when they needed to criticize this particular strike. A deleted tweet from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department even expressed sympathy for the Iranian military. Unfortunately, this kind of behavior only serves to undermine the security efforts undertaken by the United States and raises eyebrows about loyalties to America versus our enemies.

Meanwhile, back in the Middle East, the Iranian response was perhaps as expected: they launched missiles toward U.S. bases in Iraq and Qatar, but to no effect. It’s like throwing popcorn at a tank! To add insult to injury, even Iran’s closest ally, Communist China, reportedly warned the Iranian leadership against any reckless maneuvers that might threaten the global oil flow through the Straits of Hormuz. Moderation might not sound like a typical Iranian strategy, but perhaps with most of their aggressive operations thwarted, a little peace could go a long way!

This situation does prompt an interesting conversation about the extent of presidential powers in military matters. Historical context reveals a serious trend: Congress has often handed over military authority to the executive branch, much to the chagrin of many. However, the President’s actions here are backed by Iran’s violations of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. So, while some may argue about the legality of this operation, the national interest in preventing adversaries from acquiring nuclear capabilities is undeniably a priority.

As the dust settles on this military operation, the hope is that the international community, and nations like China, will assess the consequences of aggressive actions against the United States. The message being sent is clear: if Iran wishes to abandon its harmful pursuits and foster genuine peace, now could be the perfect time for a new direction. After all, as the President seems to suggest, sometimes the best way to approach a problem is simply to choose peace over war. A refreshing idea, wouldn’t you say?
