CNN’s latest take on the Biden administration has all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. During a recent episode of “The Lead,” Jake Tapper took it upon himself to dissect the Democratic Party’s platform, suggesting it serves as a cozy blanket for Vice President Kamala Harris to snuggle under while remaining ambiguously undefined. It has become increasingly apparent that the Dems prefer their policies, such as a vague Instagram post—lots of likes and minimal substance.
The discussion escalated when CNN’s Political Director David Chalian chimed in, positing that reopening the platform to accommodate Harris’s rapidly evolving policies could unleash a political “can of worms.” Sounds delightful. The idea that Democrats prefer a platform that takes a backseat to avoid internal quarrels is telling. Why risk unity when you can embrace the chaos of ambiguity? They are more than willing to let their platform hang in limbo like a bad haircut from the ’90s as long as it avoids any hard decisions.

Tapper couldn’t help but point out that this obfuscation allowed Harris to glide along without being pinned down. The Vice President can now casually blame her vague stance on the Obama-Biden legacy, a masterstroke of political maneuvering that the Dems have perfected. According to Tapper’s insights, Harris gets a free pass to dodge questions while the opposition is told to sit down and be quiet, citing the absence of a solid platform from Donald Trump in 2020—if only the left would hold themselves to the same standards.
But let’s not skip over Tapper’s jab at the GOP’s platform, likening it to a “leaflet.” Reminiscent of a scoffing teenager, this commentary reveals the condescension typical of liberal media elites. The conundrum, however, is that the GOP has a focused agenda, unlike the hazy cocktail of ideas that the Democrats seem to be brewing. When it comes to a clear vision, who doesn’t prefer a well-thought-out manifesto over a half-baked pamphlet?
As the Democratic Party continues down the road of non-specific policies and convoluted platforms, it becomes abundantly clear that they are more interested in maintaining the status quo of vagueness than in establishing a concrete path forward.
