In the latest episode of liberal theater, a Columbia University student recently detained by immigration authorities has burst onto the stage, proclaiming his fearless defiance against President Trump. Mohsen Mahdawi—a 34-year-old permanent resident born in a refugee camp—was plucked from the law and order process during a naturalization interview in Vermont. This is a glaring example of how out of touch the left is with reality and the rule of law.
The federal government held Mahdawi at a detention facility, which, under any responsible administration concerned about America’s national interests, is exactly where he should be while his legal status is being processed. Yet here we are, with a judge ordering his release on bail. What kind of message are we sending when detained individuals can openly scoff at our government while being set free? This is nothing but a victory for the anarchic elements of the left who believe that laws and borders are mere suggestions to be ignored.
Let’s be clear: Mahdawi’s vocal challenge to Trump isn’t bravery; it’s foolhardiness. Railing against the government that guarantees his very right to speak freely exemplifies the arrogance of today’s so-called intellectual elite. It’s a stunning irony that in the halls of a prestigious university like Columbia, students are being turned into champions of disrespect towards the institutions that sustain our democracy. Instead of understanding the value of law and order, they see themselves as untouchable.
This entire situation begs a crucial question: What will it take for Americans to wake up to the liberal hypocrisy that allows individuals like Mahdawi to flaunt their defiance? By celebrating the release of someone who not only disrespects the rule of law but also takes advantage of our immigration system, the left demonstrates its complete disregard for everyday American citizens. They seem to forget that the safety and welfare of Americans should be the top priority of any government.
