A New Hampshire lawmaker is facing intense backlash from his own party for standing up to protect women’s private spaces. State Rep. Jonah Wheeler, a young black Democrat, voted with Republicans to keep biological males out of women’s bathrooms and locker rooms. His brave stance earned him ugly attacks from radical progressives who compared him to segregationists.
The fight started when Wheeler joined GOP lawmakers to pass a bill ensuring single-sex spaces for women. He argued it’s common sense to protect girls and women from being forced to share intimate areas with biological males. “Putting in place policies that say women who were born women deserve a space to themselves is not transphobic,” Wheeler explained. But his own Democratic colleagues shouted “Shame!” and stormed out of the chamber.
Things got worse when a white Democrat compared Wheeler’s position to racist “Whites Only” Jim Crow laws. This outrageous claim ignored the fact that Wheeler is one of the few black representatives in New Hampshire. He calmly shot back that protecting women’s privacy has nothing to do with race. “What happened in the Jim Crow era is significantly different,” Wheeler stated.
This isn’t the first time Wheeler has stood up to his party’s radical agenda. Last year, he broke ranks to ban sex-change surgeries for kids under 18. “These are irreversible surgeries,” Wheeler said at the time. “I don’t think children should be able to get them.” Angry progressives surrounded him after the vote, screaming that he betrayed the LGBT community.
Conservatives are praising Wheeler for showing courage in defending women and children. Republican leaders called his actions “brave” and “common sense.” Meanwhile, Wheeler says radical leftists have called him a Nazi and tried to bully him into silence. “The Democratic Party can’t handle honest debate,” he noted. “They’d rather attack anyone who questions their extreme gender ideology.”
The harsh treatment of Wheeler reveals how far left the Democratic Party has strayed. Instead of listening to reasonable concerns about women’s safety, they smear critics as bigots. New Hampshire’s “Live Free or Die” spirit is under attack from woke mobs trying to erase basic biological truths. Thankfully, leaders like Jonah Wheeler are pushing back against this madness.
