The fallout from the disastrous Election Day results for the Democrats has turned into a public spectacle of blame-shifting and finger-pointing. Following the overwhelming defeat of Vice President Kamala Harris at the hands of now-President-elect Donald Trump, the party has resorted to infighting. Rather than accepting the will of the American people, Democrats are immersed in a chaotic struggle to identify the real culprit behind their historic loss.
Bernie Sanders, the self-styled champion of the left, did not hold back in laying the blame squarely on Harris’ campaign. He pointedly highlighted how her lackluster effort failed to resonate with working-class voters, which reality has operated as a punchline among conservatives. Sanders’ assessment, while harsh, struck at the heart of the Democrats’ ongoing crisis — their alienation of the very voters they claim to want to represent. The irony of the party’s internal squabbles is amusing, especially when they bemoan the public’s supposed inability to appreciate the brilliance of their candidates.
Enter Nancy Pelosi, the matriarch of the Democrat Party, who has been rendered almost entirely incapable of self-reflection by her obsession with defeating Trump. Rather than acknowledging the party’s deeper issues, she reacted defensively to Sanders, showcasing her own detachment from the struggles faced by Americans. In her typical finger-pointing fashion, she suggested that the situation might have improved had Biden left the race sooner, thus opening a door for a more competitive primary process.
This begs the question — does Pelosi really believe her party could escape the void of relevance by merely rearranging the deck chairs, or is she genuinely that out of touch? Her criticisms of Sanders were laced with a curious blend of faux appreciation and double-talk, as she insisted the Democrats still have a connection to working-class families. Yet the evidence suggests otherwise; the party’s continual pandering to elite interests and Hollywood celebrities has left many feeling abandoned and disenfranchised.

Pelosi also attempted to deflect blame onto societal issues such as sexism, racism, and even homophobia for Harris’ poor performance. These vague and nebulous scapegoats do little to address the hard reality that a significant portion of the electorate simply did not connect with Harris’ messaging. It’s almost as if Pelosi is still operating in the playbook of 2020, convinced that the American people are blinded by some form of prejudice rather than evaluating policies and candidates based on merit.
The bottom line is clear: the Democrats are so entrenched in their internal warfare that they fail to see the larger trend occurring in the country. The party has strayed far from its roots and has become a playground for radical ideologies. As long as leaders like Pelosi remain at the helm, the Democratic Party will continue to wallow in delusion, unable to confront the truth about its alienation from the very voters it desperately needs to win back. One has to wonder how long it will take them to realize that expressing outrage only among themselves will never win over the American people.
