Rumors may have swirled around, but Democrats can no longer keep mum about the ice-cold relations between President Joe Biden and his old boss, Barack Obama. The recent piece by Politico only pours gasoline on this fire, especially after a woeful presidential debate last month shattered the Democratic base.
The most entertaining example from this democratic drama came when actor George Clooney, in an op-ed for The New York Times, suggested Biden step aside. Clooney’s heartfelt plea, masked as tough love, was nothing short of a verbal slap. According to Clooney, the Joe Biden who was barely coherent at a recent fundraiser wasn’t the same firebrand who shouted “big F-ing deal” back in 2010.

The Clooney critique has amusingly managed to irk both Biden and his anticipated rival, GOP’s Donald Trump. Clooney backed up his claims with a refreshing lack of endorsement from Obama. Yes, that’s right. Before penning his open letter, the actor reportedly called up Obama to give him a heads-up. Obama’s response? A fantastically indifferent meh, leaving Clooney free to dish out his criticism.
Politico highlighted that this glaring silence from Obama broke his previous token defenses of Biden following that deplorable debate performance. It was a classic non-move by Obama, revealing his wishy-washy loyalty. Biden’s feeble defense from Obama and Clooney’s unexpected takedown just added another colorful chapter to this democratic soap opera.
Adding more salt to Biden’s wounds, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi isn’t exactly parroting the party line, either. Pelosi has apparently advised Democrats in swing districts to prioritize their own re-elections over supporting Biden. Even she suggested waiting it out until the NATO Summit wraps up, showing just how shaky Biden’s high seat is.
With his own party fragmenting like this, Biden’s reelection bid is looking about as appealing as a soggy sandwich. It appears the Democrats are eating their own, and Biden is the main course.
