Here we go again, folks. Just when you thought the Democrats couldn’t get any more out of touch, congressional Democrats are up in arms about their own presidential nominee, Joe Biden. Thanks to widespread concerns over Biden’s suitability for a second term, a new letter is making the rounds, pushing back against the planned virtual roll call to officially crown him as the party’s stamp collector-in-chief ahead of the Democratic National Convention.
The letter, now making its way through the halls of Congress like a hot potato, points out the nonsensical idea of using a virtual roll call for Ohio’s ballot qualification—a necessity that vanished faster than Biden’s train of thought on one of his infamous stage gaffes. Ohio’s lawmakers kindly updated their rules, making this virtual charade utterly redundant. But Democrats never miss an opportunity to turn a simple issue into a political gymnastics event.
The letter laments that going forward with this ‘virtual roll call’ is an obvious political stunt and would wreck whatever morsels of unity the party has left. It was gracious enough to remind everyone that Biden himself has told Congress, with what one assumes was a straight face, to challenge his nomination at the convention if they dare. Nothing says confidence in your leadership like inviting a revolt at your own party’s gala.
Adding to the fun, a band of Democrats, including eighteen House members and a lone Senate buddy, are publicly calling for Biden to bow out. His questionable debate performances and verbal slips—a feast for meme-makers—have put some Democrats on the brink of panic. Swing district Rep. Susan Wild, eyeing her dicey 2024 chances, has indicated she’s getting in on the action, ready to sign this declaration of dissent.
Progressive Caucus member Rep. Jared Huffman is apparently leading the charge with this letter. He has highlighted the heavy-handedness of fast-tracking Biden’s nomination process when the issue at hand was resolved by a legislative fix. Huffman and his cohorts rightly see this move as a brute-force attempt to sidestep any legitimate debate, serving a cocktail of chaos and disunity on the rocks.

As expected, Biden’s campaign manager isn’t backing down, sticking to the plan like it’s a lifeboat on the Titanic. Despite the resolved ballot deadline issue in Ohio, they’re pressing on with the virtual roll call as though it was a sacred ritual. Talk about missing the forest for the trees. Fulks defended the decision, stating their insistence stemmed from not wanting to rely on Ohio Republicans—a classic blame game to cover a nonsensical strategy.
So here we are, watching Democrats scramble and squabble, while the rest of the country waits to see just how low they can sink before the official nomination. Pass the popcorn, it’s going to be an entertaining convention.
