Dems Leave ICE Defunded: Homan Blasts Lawlessness

As the nation watches the stunning spectacle of American airports descending into chaos, it’s hard not to take a moment to ask what’s causing this mess. Over at Baltimore’s airport, passengers are advised to arrive four hours early due to apocalyptic lines. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and the solution? Deploying ICE agents to support the overworked and underpaid TSA personnel. Naturally, this has sparked panicked reactions from Democrats who seem convinced that ICE agents might transform into some kind of nightmare airport scenario. Yes, because training people who are skilled in handling tense situations is apparently the recipe for terror in the skies.

However, rather than accepting this pragmatic solution aimed at easing airport chaos, some critics seem to think ICE’s presence at airports is akin to opening the gates of Hades. The accusations range from sheer incompetence to outright malevolence, both of which sound more like plotlines from a low-budget thriller than a real assessment. Yet, the truth is simpler. ICE agents are lending a hand while undergoing necessary training to ensure they fit their interim roles. Still, while agents are working to cut down those horrific lines, the debate remains on whether the support job should fall on them or simply ensuring TSA gets the funding it sorely needs.

In Chicago, Mayor Brandon Johnson’s voice echoes with a familiar tune as he stands firm against ICE involvement in his city, invoking the ideals of justice, dignity, and abolition of ICE altogether. This comes in the wake of tragic events involving violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants, which could have been prevented with stronger immigration enforcement. Abolishing ICE, as advocated by some, would be akin to trying to fix a flat tire by removing all the wheels from your car—it doesn’t address the underlying issues and only exacerbates them further. The late Sheridan Gorman’s family doesn’t want generalities; they desire accountability and genuine solutions, yet their cries seem to fall on tone-deaf ears.

Mayor Johnson isn’t alone in his stern disapproval. New York’s Mayor, Eric Mandami, has labeled ICE a rogue entity, aggressively pushing for its abolition, even as places like New York struggle with safety concerns linked to illegal immigration. A poignant reminder comes through the story of an Air Force veteran shoved in the subway by an illegal immigrant, a tale that’s been met with deafening silence from certain quarters. It’s quite curious that while some lawmakers find time to rail against ICE, they can’t seem to muster a meaningful response to such incidents that would prioritize public safety over political showcasing.

If the laws on the books today resemble those that existed under past administrations, what’s changed isn’t the law but the willingness to enforce it. With President Trump’s renewed promises to clamp down on illegal immigration and keep America safe, the stark contrast is drawn with prior administrations, where rhetoric often didn’t match enforcement. The irony here is quite rich; the very institutions tasked with upholding public safety and supporting community security—yes, including ICE—are now portrayed as villains. Perhaps one can only hope that one day rational discourse will return, and we’ll see an airport where travelers don’t need a long stay visa simply to catch an outbound flight. Until then, passengers are advised to pack a snack, a book, and a hefty dose of patience.
